How to get it done

  1. Check your dateA certificate usually lasts four years less one day. Book when yours has two months or less to run: you keep the same expiry day and month, plus four years.
  2. Choose an examiner who covers ShropshireGet their phone number from the official BSS register and agree a date and where the boat will be.
  3. Get the boat readyGas or fuel on board, panels off so hoses and joints can be seen, and the gas locker emptied. The full BSS checklist.
  4. If something failsThe examiner tells you what needs fixing. In general you have up to three months for a re-examination of those items.
